Solo Performance Lab

Level One

This workshop takes students through the process of creating a solo performance piece.  These can be autobiographical or fictional stories; character monologues; investigative journalistic pieces; persuasive speeches; spoken word; or text combined with dance, song, etc. As such, students receive solid training in both writing and performance that they can apply to their particular piece.  Specific topics include plot, organic structure, character creation, use of breath/body/voice, and ways to establish a relationship with an audience.  This workshop is for writers who want to act, actors who want to write, all artists wishing to create work for themselves, and anyone with something yearning to be shared.  In a nurturing, structured environment, students write an ouline for a full-length one-person show as well. They also create a five-minute piece that they present for an invited audience on November 30th.

Other Details of Class:

  • One one-on-one phone session with instructor (approximately 45 minutes)
